Lithgow is nestled at the western foot of the Blue Mountains 100km west of Sydney and about 900meters above sea level. We have a population of 12,000. In our district we have some of the most breath taking scenery in the world. Our area is steeped in tradition and history.

We offer hourly, ½ day and full day package tours to such areas of interest and history as the Blast Furnace Site (the foundation site of the Australian Iron & Steel Industry), The Mining Museum, Esbank House, Hassans Walls Lookout, The Zig-Zag Railway, The Glow Worm Tunnels, Mt Piper Power Station Energy Expo, Lake Lyell and Lake Wallace, The Jenolan Caves.

The Statemine Heritage Park & Railway

This unique site gives an understanding of early Coal Mining , the Miners and their families. It features Mining displays and machinery on a former mine site with a Working Blacksmith’s Shop.

ESBANK HOUSE

One of Lithgow`s oldest buildings features avast array of antiques, rambling cottage gardens and an impressive display of Lithgow Pottery.

The house, built from local sandstone in 1842 for Thomas Brown, the man who first established the coal industry in Lithgow, stands in a hectare of beautiful lawns and gardens. The four front rooms have been preserved much as they were in Thomas Brown`s day, and contain some beautiful early Victorian furniture.

Also displayed are many fine exhibits of the early history of the district, a feature being an excellent display of Lithgow pottery and artefacts from the pottery works. The covered courtyard at the rear is used as a museum and exhibits include a Hansom cab and a Penny farthing bicycle. The locomotive "Possum", which was used at the Lithgow Blast Furnace, is displayed in the grounds of the museum.

THE GLOW WORM TUNNEL

Travel along the old railway line along the Newns Plato heading down into the Walgon valley and in the curved tunnel the glow worm colony present an amazing sight. As if looking into a starlight night sky. These Creatures are very sensitive to light so it is important not to shine a torch light directly on them.

Through the tunnel and you overlook the Wolgan Valley. The largest River formed Valley out side the Grand Canyon on Earth. You can continue to follow the old Railway line to the valley floor and the old Station, a trip of some 19 Km, to take in the breathtaking views and natural Flora and Fauna.

You can be dropped off at the parking bay and picked up later at your leisure, at the parking bay.
